DIMAPUR, JULY 16
A local clan in Kohima has denounced what is understood to be conflict arising out of a romantic relationship that lead to the brutal assault of a pregnant woman and threats to her family members.
Yanotsu clan of Dihoma village issued a statement on Wednesday denouncing “the heinous and barbaric act” of individuals identified as one Kevizhasielie Nagi, a Vidilhoulie Nagi and three other accomplices from Jotsoma village against a woman, one Kevilenuo on the night of July 11 at around 7:00 pm.
An FIR has been lodged in the Kohima South Police Station, the clan’s leaders stated in the press release.
Kevilenuo is said to be a government employee presently serving as a Hindi teacher in the Government High School of Jotsoma. “She and one Rokovito, a bachelor, from Jotsoma village who is also serving in the same school fell in love and got into a relationship and subsequently she became pregnant. She has been pregnant for four months now.
In the process, Kevilenuo shifted from Jotsoma village to a rented house at Lower Midland, Kohima town since the beginning of July 2014,” the clan stated.
According to the clan’s statement, the husband’s brothers namely Kevizhasielie Nagi, Vidilhoulie Nagi and three others came to her place where she was residing and forcefully dragged her from her room by breaking the door open and took her to Science College and “assaulted her to the extreme.”
The antisocial also accused her of luring Rokovito in the relationship and that she had given him “love charm,” the press statement said.
“Kevilenuo was beaten by these men with their fist, slapped and kicked and also her hair was cut with scissor. She was also badly beaten with a rope.
The assault has tantamount to extreme degree of action beyond comprehension. Furthermore, she was asked whether she is pregnant and when she replied that she was pregnant for about four months, they abused her with dirty words and tortured her physically,” the clan stated.
At about 9:30-10:00 pm, the father of the victim was informed to come and take her home. “However, as her father was in the village, he told his children to go to Jotsoma to take her. In order to release her, the victim’s brothers and sister were threatened and made to sign in papers to the effect that whatever happened to her was her own doing and if anything happens to Rokovito and his brothers in the future, she would be held responsible,” the clan stated.
The case being a group of male members against a helpless woman is totally disheartening, the community has stated. “Her health condition gradually worsened and for which medical examination was done at Oking Hospital, Kohima on 13-7-14 and the report also clearly demonstrated the injury caused to the victim,” the community has said.
“We condemn their action in the strongest term. Their action is an act of barbarism filled with baseless and unfounded allegations devoid of any substance of truth. Their action also attempted to murder her and the infant in her womb while also insulting and treating a woman to the lowest standard of a sub human being,” the press release stated.
The Yanotsu clan of Dihoma village has demanded justice for the heinous crime perpetrated against the pregnant woman and also urged the authorities to take serious measures against the antisocial.
