IMPHAL, August 24: Life in Imphal was partially affected in on Wednesday due to indefinite statewide bandh which was on from Tuesday midnight.
However, there is no report of unwanted incidents except the burning of tyres and blocking of roads by putting woods or tree branches at various locations in the outskirt of Imphal, till the report goes to the press.
In view of the bandh, the vehicular movement particularly the passengers services have been severely affected from dawn to dusk. As a result, the markets places and business establishments wore desolate look the whole day even as the shops and establishments were opened throughout the day.
Similarly, the attendance in the government offices and establishments were also very thin while almost all the educational institutions both government and private excluding few in hills were also remained closed on Wednesday. Interestingly the normal air traffic at the Imphal International airport was not affected during the day’s bandh.
The indefinite bandh was called by the All Manipur Written Test successful candidates of Police Constable Male 2013 in protest against the cancellation of their recruitment process while they are demanding immediate announcement of the result of their recruitment in the recent times. The candidates are also strongly protesting the police action on the candidates while staging a rally in Imphal.
Imposing economic blockade on the National Highways since August 16 in protest against Government’s failure to declare the Police recruitment result, the agitating candidates are demanding revocation of the government’s recruitment order on or before August 25.
Meanwhile, state police department has announced to conduct “fresh recruitment process for the candidates who applied for the post of constables (Civil-Male) in Manipur police department in the year 2013”, according to a press release of Manipur police department issued on Sunday.
