Dimapur, August 5 (EMN) : Wokha District Legal Service Authority (WDLSA) organised an awareness programme and essay competition at Bailey Baptist College on August 2.
The program was chaired by PLV, Titibeni Murry while BBC vice principal welcomed all the resource persons and the participants.
Superintendent of Observation Home Wokha, Wobenthung J. Patton, spoke on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015. He said that owing to amendment being made on the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the juvenile between the 16-18 years of age, committing heinous crimes would be treated as adults. He stressed on the need to spread awareness to the common people through students so that the message reached out to the community.Panel lawyer, David Ezung highlighted the free legal service being provided to the poor people through DLSA and asked them to be aware of various schemes in order to avail benefits. He said one need not be a law professional to understand and know laws but with a mere knowledge of basic laws would enhance their lives and avoid ignorance and to fight for one’s own rights.
Chonchithung Y. Emungrui, Lichumo Kikon and Zuchamo Ngullie were adjudged as the winners of the essay competition in first, second and third position respectively. Cash prize and certificates were given to the winners. A total of 35 students participated in the competition.
