A suspected IED blast severely damaged a Bailey bridge in Manipur's Kamjong district, disrupting connectivity and prompting police investigation.
IMPHAL — A Bailey bridge connecting Sahamphung Block with Kamjong district headquarters in Manipur was severely damaged in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast late Tuesday night, police sources said.
The bridge, constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, spans the Namban Lok River between Phange and Chatric Khunou villages and serves as the only road link connecting Chatric and several nearby villages with the district headquarters.
According to police, unidentified miscreants allegedly detonated suspected IEDs at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, causing extensive damage to the bridge.
A pick-up truck belonging to the Telecom department, which was parked on the bank of the Namban Lok River, was also set ablaze by the attackers.
Police suspect the attack was intended to damage critical public infrastructure, disrupt transportation and communication services, and create fear among the local population.
Chassad Police Station has registered a suo motu case and launched an investigation into the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast, and no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
