Dimapur, Oct. 18 (EMN): Deplorable road conditions along the national highways, district highways and village roads dominated discussion at the monthly meeting of the Tuensang District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held on October 18 under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman of DPDB, Tuensang, Mohammed Ali Shihab.
Commenting on the deplorable road conditions, departmental officials lamented on the worsening of road conditions with each passing day, a DIPR report stated on Friday.
Secretary of Red Cross Society TY Sangtam, while deliberating on the issue, stated that unless step-brotherly treatment by the department concerned is rectified, the region would never have proper roads and infrastructures.
The members were of the view that roads in the district should be given to the BRO to maintain quality workmanship.
Emergency departments such as police and health of the district also lamented on the deplorable condition of the road which affects execution of their duties and functions. They have attributed failure in duties to meet in times of emergencies and law and order situations to bad roads.
The officials of the districts were also annoyed by the poor workmanship by the road contractors which lasts only for weeks or months. The forum suggested setting up a district committee to pursue the work activities and also decided that roads should be the agenda for every DPDB meeting until necessary arrangements are met on the road sector.
Lankonsen, ADC Shamator, appealed to the district officers to keep a check on their subordinates officers of the sub-divisions and monitor their performances.
Imti Chang, senior treasury officer, asked the house to submit their salary bills starting from 25th of the month or before 2nd of last working day of the month so that the employees would get their salary on the last day of the month as per the standing order.
