MINISTER for Roads & Bridges Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu has expressed serious concern over the high handedness of Naga political groups in Phek town which yet again resulted in the death of a civilian, Chivoveyi Nienu.
Azo said the victim was physically assaulted by two members of NNC (N/A), identified as Vekuvo and Thomas, on May 29 on alleged false conviction. He died on June 3.
Questioning the inactivity and slackness of the district administration and the law enforcing agencies in the district, the minister said office heads concerned should relinquish their chairs if they cannot perform their duties towards the people. Pointing out that the failure of the law enforcing agencies has resulted in the death of the innocent civilian, Azo wondered what more is needed for the authorities concerned to wake up.
Condemning the murder, the minister has urged the Home minister to take up the issue seriously and ensure that no stone is left unturned in delivering justice to the innocent family members.
CMA: The Chakhesang Mothers Association (CMA) has the condemned the merciless killing of Chivoveyi.
A condemnation note appended by CMA president Zaposhelu Venuh said killing own their brethren by people who claim to be from Naga political group fighting for the cause of the Nagas is never a welcoming gesture. The incident needs to be condemned and culprits punished without any further delay, it said.
The CMA also supported the demand of public of Phek town to handover the criminals to the authority concerned within 48 hours or else flush the NNC (NA) out form the town.
CYF: The Chakhesang Youth front (CYF) in strongest term condemned the murder of Chivoveyi by the NNC (NA) cadres.
In a condemnation note, CYF president Zhopayi Nakro and press secretary Chikhotso Nienu said every individual has the right to a fair and timely trial based on clear charges and proper investigation which the victim was denied.
The murder was truly barbaric in nature and has no basis in our community, the CYF said.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, it said punishment befitting the crime be awarded to them. The CYF further urged the authorities to maintain law and order in the State.
