AYO undertakes resolutions for environment

Dimapur, May 17 (EMN): The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has undertaken a number of resolutions that it explained was to preserve “our very fragile environment, its natural biodiversity, flora and fauna.” The AYO issued a press release on Tuesday. “The AYO reiterates our commitment towards the protection and preservation of our very fragile environment, its natural biodiversity, flora and fauna,” the press release stated. “We hold outmost importance to save our environment from farther destruction. Therefore it is our sincere resolve do (sic) assist and contribute towards this resolve.” The group iterated what it said was a ‘declaration’ on the 7th of August 2010, during the AYO presidential council meeting at Ura Academy, Kohima. ‘We wish to emphasize on the urgency of certain condition which be effected effective immediately,’ the organization stated. ‘It is immensely important to protect and preserve our environment and biodiversity.’ The AYO has stated that “jungle burning is strictly prohibited and shall not be tolerated. ‘There is a blanket ban on the use and sale of air guns including pallets in the market; stone crushers, stone quarries, “car wash and vehicle and advice to maintain maximum distincts (sic) from the main national high ways and roads.” The AYO stated further that “relaxation of hunting period is entirely a prerogative of the concerned village and youth organizations in care of life threatening and livelihood matters.” Defaulters will be sternly penalized and for any penalization, the organisation stated, “it shall be effected by the concern unit/range youth organization.” The resolution will be implemented in every Angami jurisdiction, the group said. “We humbly appeal for genuine adherence to the resolution for their interest of our society. We trust that co-operation by every individual shall directly contributed towards saving our precious environment in this age of climate change,” the press release added.
