Dimapur, May 17 (EMN): One-day awareness programme on “Harmful effects of plastic use” was organised by the Tening Town Council under Peren district at Town Hall on May 17.
Rhosietho Nguori, administrator of Tening Town Council (TTC) commented that the town council would find a waste management site shortly and appealed to the people for their support and cooperation.
Extra Assistant Commissioner, T Sulanthung, stated that plastic is not bio-degradable and called upon all to reduce, re-use and recycle.
Commander of Assam Rifles, Tening, also spoke on the occasion.
The programme concluded with a closing remark by RhosiethoNguori, Additional Deputy Commissioner.
Meanwhile, Kiphire district administration has taken an initiative to completely ban use of plastic and urged the people of the district to carry reusable bottles and shopping bags instead of plastic bags.
Kiphire district has started the collection and disposal of plastic wastes and even constructed waste bins in all the offices and schools. The district administration has also distributed biodegradable bags to all the shops.
