Awareness on impact of Jal Jeevan Mission held in Tuensang
A one-day awareness programme on the socio-economic and environment impact of JJM and its sustainability on the banner ‘An empirical study in Nagaland’ was held at Tuensang village

members after an awareness programme on Jal Jeevan Mission at Tuensang village
panchayat hall on Friday.
DIMAPUR — A
one-day awareness programme on the socio-economic and environment impact of Jal
Jeevan Mission (JJM) and its sustainability on the banner ‘An empirical study
in Nagaland’ was held at Tuensang village panchayat hall on Friday.
The research was undertaken under project director, Prof.
Ashutosh Tripathi, head of Environmental Science at Nagaland University,
Lumami; co-project director, Nohochem Sangtam, assistant professor at Fazl Ali
College, Mokokchung; and Ambirish Singh, Ph.D scholar and professor of
Chemistry at NU.
Speaking at the programme, Ashutosh Tripathi shared a short
message on the research activities and said that the study was purely to assess
the impact of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Nagaland academically, stated a DIPR
report.
The study focused on the socio-economic and environmental
impacts of the mission along with its sustainability in the region. Stating
that the scheme has impacted different dimensions on the lives of people
especially in Nagaland, he stated that people and community should come
together for the sustainability of the scheme.
Akangjongshi Chang, junior engineer of PHED, Tuensang division,
thanked the research team especially Professor Ashutosh Tripathi and his team
for taking up the research project, which would be helpful for the policy
makers and society in the near future. He also thanked Nohochem Sangtam, who
actively worked in the water quality analysis under JJM activities from
baseline survey to implementation process for the last few years.
Nohochem Sangtam, co-project director and assistant
professor of EVS at FAC, Mokokchung, talked on the research objective and areas
of study to be focused on and emphasised the importance of the research in
understanding the long-term effects of JJM on local communities and the
environment. He encouraged the department officials and community to take part
in the research activities especially during data collection whose findings
would provide valuable insights for future planning and policy decision in the
future, ensuring that the mission's benefits are sustained for generations to
come.
He also encouraged active participation and collaboration
from local communities, government officials and other stakeholders to ensure
the success of the research. He further stated that their field staff would be
visiting villages for date collection and sample analysis.
The welcome address was delivered by Kaimang Chang,
citizens’ president and WATSAN chairman of Tuensang village, while the vote of
thanks was delivered by Ngamen Chang, JE PHED.
PHED officials, junior engineers, Ph.D scholars and WATSAN
council members and women leaders attended the programme.
