
Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): In commemoration of 75th years of India’s Independence (Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav), office of the District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung, conducted an awareness programme for women beneficiaries under National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) on March 11 at Ongpangkong Salang in Mokokchung town on the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow."
Speaking on the topic “Gender equality and women rights,” the guest speaker and member of Mokokchung district legal services authority, Molusen Imchen, maintained that basic human rights are provided to every individual irrespective of gender. She, however, stated that social evils and discrimination in society mostly affect women.
She also stated that the Government of India has formulated various schemes and laid down laws to assist women. She further urged to create awareness on the subject for a safer society.
Another guest speaker, AsongYaden from Sakhi-One Stop Centre highlighted some of the services provided by the centre to women in distress.
The District Welfare Officer of Mokokchung, Hebou Rio, delivered the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Sunepwapang, CDPO.
