
Dimapur, April 7 (EMN): Awareness programmes and health camps marked the ‘World Health Day’ across various districts in Nagaland on April 7 on the theme “Our planet, our health.”
World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7 to draw attention to the critical health issues facing humanity. The day is also used as an opportunity to spread awareness about the overall health and well-being of people.
Kohima: The office of the chief medical officer (CMO) of Kohima observed the ‘World Health Day’ in the office premises.
Speaking at the programme, the CMO Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, stated that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and other global challenges have impacted the health system. She added that the increasing environmental degradation and pollution have also impacted life expectancy and quality of life.
She also informed the public about the ongoing social health responsibility campaign at urban wards and colonies.
The programme officer has sensitised the public on Ayushmaan Bharat–PMJAY, reproductive child health/ universal immunisation programme, vector borne diseases, Covid testing and vaccination and tuberculosis programme.
Dimapur: Commemorating the ‘World Health Day,’ PHC Kuhuboto, in collaboration with Nagaland Health Project, Dimapur unit under the office of the chief medical officer, organised a multi-specialty health mela on April 6.

Doctors and staff from various health programmes such as National Programme for Control of Blindness, Revised National TB Control Programme, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Non-Communicable Diseases, gynaecologist, paediatrician, and general medical officers and lab. technicians have attended to a total of 267 patients. Blood testing for malaria and sputum samples were collected for TB and blood sugar testing.
The health mela was inaugurated by the CMO of Dimapur, Dr. I Moatemjen, where he urged the public to take responsibility for their own health and to contribute in saving and preserving the environment.
T Honito Yeptho, GB of Kuhuboto town Sector-6, also urged the public to avail the services provided at the health unit. He stated that unless the public avails the services and demand for more facilities, no further development would be provided by the department.
Mon: Mon district observed the ‘World Health Day’ in all the health units to spread awareness about quality living and the importance of health.
CHC Aboi, in collaboration with KNSK Aboi, organised a short programme with the ADC Aboi, Chumlamo Humtsoe, a special guest. Dr. Neiprezo spoked on the theme, while Dr. Hangsa and Chumlamo spoke on the importance of health.
Chenloishu Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) team also observed the day at Government High School, Chenloishu, to create awareness among young people on the importance of staying healthy.
CHC Tobu, CHC Wakching, PHC Phomching, HWC Jakphang, PHC Chen also celebrated the day to raise awareness and took a pledge to stay fit.
Phek: Phek district observed the 'World Health Day' at the office of the chief medical officer in Phek town.
Dr. Rongsen from DH Phek spoke on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle by consuming organic and local products which are easily available in the market. He also elaborated on the lifestyle which affects the health of the community such as deforestation, using of poly bags, high consumption of meat etc.
He encouraged the participants to plant more trees, save electricity, save water to keep the land green and healthy.
Dr. Limatoshi, epidemiologist, spoke on the preventive healthcare and non-communicable diseases. He informed that non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer and cardiovascular diseases are on the rise. In order to live a healthy life, he has suggested a balanced diet and to avoid consuming foods which are harmful for our health.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto district commemorated the ‘World Health Day by organising activities such as hand washing techniques, segregation of waste management and biomedical waste, cleanliness drive in and around the public health facilities by the medical officers and staff of all health units including ASHAs.
A short session talk was also conducted for public awareness on the hazardous effect of pollution, communicable diseases, water, sanitation and hygiene. Covid-19 awareness-cum-vaccination drive was also carried out for the age group from 12 to 14 years (Corbevax) and 15 to 17 years (Covaxin) in schools around the district.
Longleng: Longleng district commemorated the ‘World Health Day’ held at the CMO office conference hall.
Delivering the welcome address, the CMO of Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla emphasised on the importance of maintaining a good lifestyle for better health, while the resource person and medical superintendent of District Hospital Longleng, Dr. Kibangkumba, has stressed on the need to conserve the planet.
Dr. Kibangkumba also spoke on the effects of pollution caused by disposal of plastic waste. He further encouraged the gathering to make use of the church as it is an important social platform to spread awareness on the importance of living a healthy life.
Speaking on the theme, Dr. Temsusashi, DTO NTEP Longleng, encouraged the public to ‘practice what they preach’ on pollution.
Tuensang: The office of the chief medical officer and District Hospital Tuensang jointly observed the ‘World Health Day’ in Tuensang town.
Speaking on the occasion, the CMO Dr. Keveduyi Theyo stated that the day is observed with an aim to create awareness to keep humans and the planet healthy as they are interconnected. He advised the participants to take responsibility to protect the planet.
Dr. Tochi, SMO (Pathology), and Dr. Senilo Magh, MO (Psychiatrist), both at District Hospital Tuensang also spoke on the occasion.
Doctors and nurses, who participated in the programme, were taken on a tour around the hospital in which various healthy practices of the hospital were demonstrated by the staff.
Can Youth: Can Youth, in collaboration with the Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC), Dimapur, observed the ‘World Health Day’ at Hazadisa village under Dhansiripar sub-division.
On the occasion, the organisers distributed first aid kit boxes, Ayurveda medicines and also conducted a health camp led by Dr. Deepak Rahangdale, RARC research officer, as the resource person.
The programme was attended by village leaders, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, adolescents and elders from Hazadisa village, Manglamukh village and Ganeshnagar village.
A total of 118 persons received Ayurveda medicine (Samshamani Vati medicine and Ashwagandha Ghan Vati medicine).
