Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): The department of Agriculture conducted an awards presentation ceremony as part of what updates called “support to state extension reforms” of the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (Atma) scheme for 2018-19.
The awards programme was conducted on June 17 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.
The government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued to the media on Tuesday updates about the event.
Principal Secretary T Imkonglemba Ao, was the “special guest” of the event, the IPR stated.
Congratulating the awardees, Ao urged them to exert more efforts to “meet good products” as agriculture is the main source of income in the state, the IPR stated. To reap a good harvest, he said, “one needs to improve skills with modern techniques.” He was said to have referenced Vietnam and America for “their good harvest and producing the best products in the world.”
Ao said also that people across the state are ‘enjoying agriculture products that is pure organic.’ He spoke also about marketing rates, agriculture processing, packaging and marketing for quality products.
Best farmer awardees were Tokugha Zhimo from Dimapur who won in the category ‘integrated farming’; Lemtsucha from Kiphire for agriculture; Mhasikhoto Zhunyu from Kohima for animal husbandry; H Bulong from Longleng for integrated farming; T Chubaangshi Lkr from Mokokchung for Beekeeping; Nokzei Konyak from Mon for horticulture (orange); Kirangle, no surname given, from Peren for horticulture (“King chilli, ginger, tree tomato, and scallion); Vevopa Chizo from Phek for horticulture (banana); Hojungshi Sangtam from Tuensang for mixed farming (horticulture, fishery, beekeeping and agriculture); Yanpvuo Erui from Wokha for horticulture (passion fruit); and L Holuto Avemi from Zunheboto winning for horticulture (cardamom, Kiwi, and Zanthoxyllum).
The ‘Atma extension award’ was given to Kaiho Achumi (Akuhaito, Zunheboto) who was adjudged first; and Vimenuo Mere (Jakhama, Kohima) and Demalu Hasnusa (Niuland, Dimapur) who won the second position. Dimapur and Phek won the best Atma district award, the IPR stated.
