DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 20
The ongoing second edition of a sports meet, ‘Autumn Huddle,’ organized by the Ao Students' Union of Dimapur was formally opened on Tuesday, October 20, at the Dimapur State Stadium. Retired additional director for Land Resources Development, Moatoshi Longkumer, was the chief guest of the formal inauguration. The sports event had begun early Monday morning with an open half marathon.
Addressing the students, Moatoshi Longkumer spoke about the importance of discipline which he said was an important key in achieving success. Self discipline is a form of freedom that can restrain an individual from all ‘evils,’ allow him to master his thoughts and have power to stick to decisions, he said in explanation.
The former bureaucrat also spoke about various issues in life that one encounters if discipline was not inculcated. Longkumer said ‘every human of every age needs to have a disciplined life and should have the ability to say no during temptations.’ Discipline is not a commodity that is available in the market,’ he said, but it is a talent that should be inculcated and nurtured from childhood. He advised the students to be subtle in the ‘art of discipline and nothing can stop you in achieving your goals.’
Talking in context of the games, the chief guest also highlighted that to become a ‘world class athlete one should be driven to improve everyday and should never be satisfied with one has achieved in the past.’
‘Give up your bad habits to achieve your goals,’ he said, explaining that one should be ‘aggressive enough to always stand first leaving the opponents behind.’
More than 200 runners participated in the open half-marathon which took place on Monday.
Day-two of the ongoing Autumn Huddle–a biennial sports event–witnessed various disciplines such as football, volleyball (both boys and girls), 100 meter race, ‘formula-2’ race, and high jump, among others. 8 teams are participating in the events.
The three day sports event will conclude on October 21. Dr. Watizulu, senior vice president of the Nagaland Badminton Association and executive council member of the Badminton Association of India, will be the guest of honor then.
