Diphu, April 17 (EMN): Decrying the alleged indifferent attitude of the government, members of the Assam University Diphu Campus Students’ Union (AUDCSU) have staged a protest rally by blocking entry to the main gate of the campus on April 17 at around 10 a.m.
AUDCSU has demanded immediate establishment of Controller of Examination (CoE) office branch in Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC). It has also demanded establishment of departments like Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Education, Economic, Law, Sociology, Mass Communication, Tourism and Microbiology in the campus. Besides, it has demanded immediate appointment of Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Section Officer, Lab Attendant, System Analyst, Personal Assistant and other vacant posts and naming the AUDC Central Library in the name of Bonglong Terang, a renowned writer of Karbi Anglong.
Talking to the media persons, AUDCSU general secretary, Sarkangthim Rongpi, informed that the union had withdrawn their strike following assurance made by the Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC), Prof. Sivasis Biswas after he had made a telephonic conversation with Vice Chancellor (VC) of Assam University, Silchar, Prof. Dilip Ch. Nath regarding the matter.
He added that the union officials would hold a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Dilip Ch. Nath, who had assured to visit the campus on April 18.
The strike, which lasted about one and half hours, came to a close following intervention by the Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Sivasis Biswas, who assured to look into their grievances.
Mention may be made here that the Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) was established in 2007 with just only six departments since its inception. It is the only University in the hills district of Karbi Anglong where students from various communities in the region could pursue their higher studies. Since the campus is under the administration of Assam University, Silchar, various students body of the region have demanded for full fledged campus since the inception of the campus.
