Diphu, Sep. 22 (EMN): The department of History, Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) has organised two days long International Conference held at Assam University Diphu Campus from 22-23rd Sep.
Prof. Sivasish Biswas, Pro-vice Chancellor, AUDC inaugurated the conference. Dr. Felix Padel, Eminent Social Scientist, Oxford University, London-born Anthropologist and social Activist, a great, great grandson of Charles Darwin, Who propounded of Evolutionary Theory delivered keynote address on ‘the politics of difference :(Re) Locating Subalternity/Marginality’ .
After the inauguration programme the panel discussion was followed where Dr. Micheal Heneise, Centre for South Asian Studies, University of Edinburgh and Dharamsing Teron, Director, Centre for Karbi Studies, Diphu, Assam spoke on the topic of ‘Culture and Politics of Difference in north-east India in general and Karbis in Particular ‘.
During the session, books were also released R.K Bijeta & Vulli Dhanaraju (Edited), Debating Northeast India: Mapping Ethnic Identity Formation, Kalpaz, New Delhi, 2017 and Vulli Dhanaraju (Edited), Caste, Tribe and Gender: Politics of Self and the Other, Rawat, New Delhi, 2017. It was also remarked to garland Dr. B. R Ambedkar & Semson Sing Ingti’s portraits.
Dr. Vulli Dhanaraju, conference co-ordinator said that this international conference-2017 will give a space/platform to the scholars across the world to articulate nature of nationality of socially disadvantaged classes’ tribe, caste gender and discuss different forms of resistance of those communities while bringing new debates for understanding the politics of difference. Since the idea of difference or recognition can be constructed through the experience of nationality this conference will also discuss the nature of the social and new social movements which are often taking place in every part of the world in diverse forms of resistance or protest. This certainty helps us to understand the paradigm shifts in identity politics that contour the existing scholarship in the present epistemology, he added.
The conference was attended by more than 300 paper presenters from across the world and will make presentation in these two days international Conference.
