Kohima, August 4 (EMN): The 13th Atou Memorial Open Snooker Championship got underway at Atou Pool House Kohima with Roko Angami, Nagaland Football Coaches Association President and former International footballer, gracing the inaugural session as the special guest on Friday, August 4.
The championship is being sponsored by the parents and family members of Late Ketoulhou (Atou) Keditsu.
Roko in his address maintained that disciplines like Snooker or Billiards are yet to gain momentum in the State and emphasised on the need to popularise the discipline while also appreciating the organisers for creating a platform for the lovers of the game.
While encouraging the players, he said that it is important for sportspersons to have the 3Ds - dedication, discipline, and determination but the prime focus should be towards patience and hardwork to be successful.
He urged them to be humble and always seek the blessing of elders and also respect their coaches and superiors.
Roko expressed that sporting disciplines have become a very lucrative avenue; he called upon the youngsters not to be complacent by performing better at home but try to achieve greater heights.
Altogether 40 cueists from Kohima, Dimapur, Wokha, and Mizoram are competing in the championship, which carries a cash award of Rs 25,000/- for the champion, Rs 15,000/- for runners-up and Rs 5000/- each for the two losing semi-finalists and Highest Break Point. The closing function will be held on Saturday evening.
