Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): The School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural development (SASRD), Nagaland University in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) of Mumbai inaugurated ‘department of Atomic Energy Technologies Display and Dissemination Facility’ (DTDDF) centre at SASRD on July 7. An update on Sunday informed.
The DTDDF centre was jointly inaugurated by S Gupta, head of the technology transfer and collaboration division of BARC, and Prof. T Lanusosang, Vice Chancellor of SASRD.
During the inauguration programme, workshop about ‘technologies of BARC for rural people of Nagaland’ was also organised.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. T Lanusosang encouraged participants to learn new technologies and incorporate it into their livelihood. He said that such incorporation can make their life easier and generate additional income.
Dean of the SASRD, NU, Prof. AK Makar, gave an overview of the works done by the Barc. He stated that Barc are doing for the betterment of mankind. He also highlighted about the future work plan, strategy, and role of DTDDF and BARC in uplifting the livelihood of the rural people of the northeast region and Nagaland in particular.
The chief guest of the day, S Gupta, gave an outlook of the Barc. He spoke about how Barc moved on from developing atomic bombs to intervention into agriculture, food security, environment, health, etc. Further, he said that they can transform rural lives and reduce the migration of rural people to urban areas. He believed that technologies that are developed in the BARC will help rural people in accessing better facilities and create entrepreneurship for young people and industrial personalities to manufacture the technologies locally so that the technologies are available to rural people at the lowest cost.
Meanwhile, during the workshop two technical sessions were held. The resource persons were S Gupta, Head of technology transfer and collaboration Division (TTDC), BARC and GR Ursal, Scientist from TTDC, BARC.
In the first session, S. Gupta gave a detailed presentation about the different technologies attached with DTDDF. These included- Foldable Solar Dryer (FSD), Domestic Water Purifier (DWP), Soil Organic Carbon Testing Kit (SOCDK), Fluoride Detection Kit (FDK), Vibro Thermal Disinfestor (VTD).
The second session led by GR Ursal gave a demonstration of the Soil Organic Carbon Testing Kit (SOCDK) and The Fluoride Detection Kit (FDK). Also, Dr. NK Patra, exercising authority, DTDDF demonstrated the Foldable Solar Dryer (FSD) and the Domestic Water Purifier to the participants. Altogether 130 participants from villages, industrial and business people, faculties, staffs, and students of SASRD attended the sessions.
