Dimapur: The Ato Area GBs’ Association (AAGBA) on Friday decided to call off its proposed indefinite bandh following an emergency meeting with Niuland district administration officials and Executive Engineer (EE) of PWD (R& B) in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall.
The decision was arrived at after the EE assured the house that the road construction work would continue without stopping till completion, said an update from the deputy commissioner’s office, Niuland.
The AAGBA had earlier threatened to impose an indefinite bandh in Ato area starting from March 31, over non completion of road construction work (black topping) from HN-29 Central Jail to Hozukhe village, placing a 6-point demand including machineries to be stationed at Hozukhe village by March 31.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]At the Friday’s meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S Jamir, the house came to a conclusion that the road construction work would be allowed to continue after the EE pointed out that stationing of machineries at Hozukhe, as demanded by the association, would hamper the progress of the work.
It was decided that the EE would ‘ensure that the contractor completes the work at the earliest without compromising the quality and the work to be implemented according to the detailed project report (DPR) specification’.
The house also concluded that the AAGBA would supervise the work under Ato Area jurisdiction and co-ordinate with the EE, PWD (R&B) on a regular basis, thus addressing all the demands of the association.
The update went on to say that the EE apprised the house that the department had issued multiple letters to the contraction in connection with the project, while also pointing out that several events like Prime Minister’s visit, G20 Summit and state assembly election contributed to the delay in completing the construction work.
While discussing the request of the contractor to extend the time, EE apprised the house that not doing so will result in halting the bill, which will in turn hamper the progress of work.
After a thorough deliberation, the house requested the AAGBA to call off the bandh to allow the work to continue, to which the latter agreed, said an update from Niuland DC.
