Atma organises programmes for farmers

Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): Kikruma block of the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (Atma) in Phek district conducted a demonstration on cultivation of winter vegetable crops at Kikruma village on August 26.
An update from the agency stated that its officials were the resource persons for the demonstration programme.

A similar demonstration programme was also held at Rihuba village on August 27. It stated that topics on preparation of Bordeaux mixture for orchard management as well as training on rodent management were covered during the programme.

Besides, the agency had distributed face masks, Roban and various seeds of winter vegetable crops to the farmers. Altogether, 39 farmers were benefited from the Atma activities, the statement added.

It further stated that a banana farm school was also established at Kikruma village where Avevo Tunyi was appointed as the farm school teacher.

In a related programme, Atma Zunheboto block conducted a training-cum-demonstration on ‘Women empowerment through agricultural entrepreneurship during Covid-19 pandemic’ at Alahuto colony in Zunheboto town on September 1.

It stated that BTM Zunheboto Chubatsur Jamir had highlighted on the contribution of women in agricultural sector in Nagaland. She had also elaborated on the contribution of rural women towards the community through agriculture during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the programme, Atoli Yeptho, a progressive farmer from Zunheboto, had demonstrated on propagation of foliage and flowering plants.
Altogether, 15 farmers attended the training.

n yet another programme, Atma under Chunlikha block in Tseminyu sub-division conducted a field day-cum-farmers exposure trip to Phenda village on August 18. The farmers along with Atma staff visited a tea farm school with the farm teacher Shwenga Kent.

It was reported that the farm teacher had highlighted on the plantation techniques. Besides explaining on the methods of processing in making green tea, he had encouraged the farmers to take up tea plantation to elevate their economy.

It stated that locally grown green tea was distributed to the farmers. Altogether, 15 farmers attended the programme.
