DIMAPUR — In an effort to promote innovation and sustainability in agriculture, a week-long skill training programme for rural youth on livelihood generation through farm mechanisation was held from December 8 to December 14.
According to a press release, the training sessions, organised by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Niuland, under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SAME), specifically targeted youths enthusiastic about contributing to the farming sector.
The sessions were tailored to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in utilising modern machinery for efficient and sustainable farming practices, aiming to generate income.
Neiku Tsido, project director and district agriculture officer at ATMA Niuland, welcomed the participants and encouraged them to participate in the diverse range of training sessions, emphasising that the programme was more than just an opportunity to acquire knowledge but also an opportunity to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.
ATMA experts and seasoned professionals in agriculture and farm mechanisation led the training sessions. Participants had the opportunity to interact with and learn from individuals with hands-on experience and a thorough understanding of the evolving agricultural landscape.
Hitokali Jimo, assistant technology manager; Mlato, assistant technology manager; Kaiho Achumi, assistant technology manager; Aketoli Chophy, assistant technology manager; and Shikaho Sumi, machine operator, served as the resource persons for the programme.
All together, 15 youths participated in the training programme.
