KIPHIRE — A training-cum-demonstration on setting up a nutrient garden was conducted by ATMA Kiphire at the premises of PM SHRI Government High School, Yangphi, with the objective of promoting awareness on balanced nutrition and encouraging students to adopt kitchen gardening practices.
The programme was led by Dr. Manjunath, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), who served as the resource person. He provided simple, practical guidance on nursery preparation, crop selection, and sustainable farming techniques suited to the local agro-climatic conditions.
A total of 60 students participated in the programme. Under expert supervision, the students prepared nursery beds for crops such as chilli, cucumber, watermelon, tomato, and papaya. In addition, direct sowing of crops like okra, cowpeas, and sweet corn was carried out within the school compound.
The hands-on training enabled students to gain practical knowledge and skills in establishing and managing a nutrient garden. The initiative also encouraged active student participation in improving household nutrition and contributing to local food security.
