
Dimapur, March 29 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of Tuli block under Mokokchung district conducted training and demonstration on “Agromet services on crop production in the wake of climate change” at Asangma village and Tuli town respectively on March 28 and 29.
The programme was chaired by Imlisunep Ajem, BTM of Tuli block, while Ningshiyangerla Walling, Subject Matter Specialist (Agro-meteorology from KVK, Mokokchung) was the resource person.
Speaking at the programme, Ningshiyangerla Walling stated that agriculture is dependent on weather patterns and in context to climate change. In this regard, she recommended the farmers to avail Agromet services to boost agricultural production and minimise the adverse impact of extreme weather events.
Walling also covered various aspects such as ‘change of weather patterns and the dynamics of pest and diseases in the wake of climate change,’ ‘utilisation of weather forecast for tactical and strategic decisions,’ ‘components of Agromet services and its accessibility made available through various platforms.’
The team also demonstrated on Meghdoot: a mobile app to assist farmers for weather based farm management.
Demonstration on “Sweet corn production technology” (variety Sugar-75) was conducted by ATM Shilunokdang Jamir, wherein he emphasised on proper space maintenance and pest disease management.
On March 29, a demonstration on production technology of beans (variety Serengeti) was conducted by BTM Imlisunep Ajem and ATM Imlipokim Pongener at Aitlenden, Tuli.
The trainees were also given insight on identification and management of Fall Army Worm (FAW) by the ATMA staff. Summer vegetable seeds were distributed to all the farmers.
In a related programme, ATMA under Panso block in Tuensang district conducted a training and demonstration on ‘Proper nutrient management in feeds for free range chicken’ at Yokao and Ekhao village from March 25 to the 28th.
An update from ATMA Panso block stated that resource persons BTM Anungba and ATM Kezhasalie have demonstrated on soil testing using ph meter and seed treatment using bio-fertiliser. It added that the farmers were made aware about the importance of soil health and recommended the use of bio-fertiliser for effective farm management and environmentally sound agricultural system.
Altogether, 20 farmers from both the villages attended the training.
