
Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): With an aim to impart skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas so as to promote employment in rural areas, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), Mokokchung, in association with State Agricultural Management Extension and Training Institute (Sameti), Medziphema, and Manage, Hyderabad, conducted a six-day skill training of rural youth (Stry) programme on “Value addition on medicinal and aromatic herbs and vegetables” from April 26 to May 1 at its conference hall in Mokokchung town.
An update from Atma Mokokchung stated that Dr. Sashiyangba, district project officer of the Land Resources department, and Nuksunginla Jamir, assistant technology manager of Atma Mokokchung, were the resource persons of the training.
It stated that the training was conducted sensing the various prospects that the medicinal and aromatic herbs hold and to provide better quality, safe and branded food for the consumers and also to reduce post-harvest losses. It added that basing on the requirement, resource persons spoke identification and documentation of indigenous medicinal and aromatic importance of Agar (king of aromatic) in Nagaland and its market potential, inoculation in Agar wood. It also stated that extraction of Oleoresin from Agar wood was also highlighted.
Besides, the participants were also trained on preparation of mushroom pickle, brinjal and chilli pickle, mix pickle and preparation of turmeric and ginger powder.
The programme concluded with distribution of certificates to all the participants by Sentinaro Longchar, deputy project director of Atma, Mokokchung. Altogether, 18 participants from Yimyu and Khensa villages attended the training programme.
In a related programme, Atma Zunheboto, in association with Sameti, Medziphema, and Manage, Hyderabad, organised a six-day Stry programme on “Mushroom production technology” from April 26 to May 1 at Asukhuto town under Akuhaito block in Zunheboto district.
It stated that resource person Tovi Zhimo, assistant technology manager (ATM) spoke on various topics such as identification of edible mushrooms and its health benefits, methods of mushroom cultivation. It added that a practical hands-on demonstration on oyster mushroom was also performed by the participants.
Altogether 15 youths were trained and awarded the completion certificates besides providing inputs such as mushroom spawn, poly bags etc.
