DIMAPUR — ATMA Phek, Meluri block, conducted a
demonstration on "Seed-bed preparation" at Khumiasu village, Meluri,
on November 25, with BTM J Hitoka Chishi as the resource person.
According to an update, the programme was attended by 10
women farmers from the villages. After a brief introduction between the
officials and the farmers, the demonstration began on the farm of a farmer
friend.
The resource person, on the occasion, highlighted the
benefits of growing seeds in a seed-bed first, rather than sowing them directly
in the field. The demonstration concluded with the registration of farmers, a
group discussion, and the distribution of mixed vegetable crops to the farmers.
ATMA Phek also conducted a demonstration on "Cultivation
of oyster mushroom" at Meluri, with Visietolu as the resource person, on
November 27.
The programme was attended by 29 farmers from two villages.
After a brief introduction between the officials and the farmers, the
demonstration began in the council hall of Meluri town.
The resource person, on the occasion, highlighted the
benefits of growing oyster mushrooms for both self-consumption and as a
commercial crop.
The benefits of mushroom cultivation were explained to the
farmers. The preparation of the growth medium (paddy straw) was demonstrated,
including both the boiling of straw and the liming technique. The technique of
layering straw and seedlings was also demonstrated.
The packing, tying, and storing of the mushroom cylinder was
explained. Additionally, the care of the cylinder and the harvesting of the
mushrooms were verbally explained to the farmers.
The demonstration concluded with the registration of
farmers, a group discussion, and the distribution of mushroom spawn, polybags,
and string to the farmers.
