Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Management Committee and the District Farmers’ Advisory Committee held a meeting at the Office of Project Director ATMA & DSCO in Zunheboto on Aug. 13.
During the meeting, the chairman of the ATMA Governing Board & District Commissioner, Zunheboto, Shanavas C, said that the administration give full support and cooperation to organize various awareness programmes that can benefit the public. He assured to provide necessary aid towards innovative start-ups.
SDO Civil Ajit Ranjan, encouraged the committees to continue to conduct meetings for better coordination between the Agri and Allied departments.
Kuhozhe, member farmers’ advisory committee who is also a progressive farmer of Tokiye block shared about the use of harmful fertilizers and chemicals and its adverse effect on environment during the open forum discussion.
The committee members agreed on improving the marketing infrastructure through construction of marketing sheds and revamping of agricultural product marketing committee.
The members were encouraged to cultivate cardamom, banana, and kiwi and to focus on introduction of coffee cultivation in large scale.
During the discussion session, District Agriculture Officer Hukato, encouraged the farmers to practice organic farming.
District Program Officer Vikugha Kiba, stated that one of the ways to bring about the change in the economy of Zunheboto is through cultivation of cardamom and coffee as the major cash crops and thus, stressed on the need of conducting trainings.
District Evaluation Officer Hekuto, announced that a case study on ATMA Zunheboto activities and its impact is being undertaken and requested them to cooperate.
