Dimapur, November 17 : Three tribal student bodies of Dimapur - Ao Students Union Dimapur (ASUD), Dimapur Lotha Students Union (DLSU) and Dimapur Sumi Students Union (DSSU) – have resolved to dissociate from Dimapur Naga Students Union with immediate effect.
Informing this in a joint release on Thursday, ASUD president L Bendang Jamir, DSSU president Tovika K Chishi and DLSU president said the decision to dissociate from DNSU was taken at a joint meeting held at Lotha hoho Ki, Duncan Bosti on November 16. The three units also urged the DNSU Union Assembly speaker to immediately dissolve the executive council of DNSU, saying it cannot function without the executive head to look after the day-to-day functioning of the office of the DNSU.
The joint release said the three units on November 14, 2015 “conditionally” agreed to extend fullest support to the NSF Committee for DNSU Restoration on the assurance that the union assembly in its first sitting itself will take up the agenda put forth by them for re-drafting/re-amending the constitution of DNSU.
Stating that the three units since 2001 have been putting up a joint effort to counter the ‘shadow bloc system’ of the 2/3rd majority enshrined in the constitution of DNSU, the release said due to this system the decisions taken this far were never in the best interest of Naga society as a whole.
The three units informed that they submitted an ultimatum to the speaker in the 1st union assembly held at Hotel Theja Fort on November 15, 2016 urging him to take up the agenda put forth by them as per the earlier representation given to NSF but he denied having received any written representation/endorsement from the NSF Committee for DNSU Restoration.
However, the joint release said, the agenda was taken up for discussion after being forced to and put up for vote. “It was rightly rejected by vote system projecting the clear image of the ‘shadow bloc system’ and therefore the three units decided to dissociate from DNSU with immediate effect.
