ASU to begin ‘non-local verification drive’

Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): The Angami Students’ Union has informed that the first phase of “non-local verification drive 2019” will start from June 20 at the union’s office located below AIR station BOC in Kohima. The drive will continue till July 20. A statement from the union on Saturday urged the residents of Kohima district to support the exercise. According to the union, there have been stray incidents in the part where ILP holders were “hassled by unofficial personnel.” It urged citizens to report such incidents. The verification drive was to ‘thwart the invasion of illegal immigration and not discriminating any Indian citizen possessing valid ILP,’ it stated. “While we foresee inconveniences to many genuine citizens towards affecting this exercise, we urge all citizens to cooperate so as to counter this threat collectively,” read the statement.
