Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): Assistive devices for persons with disabilities were distributed on Feb. 19 at the Hopongkyu Memorial Hall in Kiphire district.
The guest of honour for the event, M ShayungPhom, deputy commissioner of Kiphire, thanked the district administration for initiating such a program especially for persons with disabilities who need the devices.
Mon
A similar programme was conducted on February 18 in Mon district. Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Ramdas Athavale and chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio were unable to attend the programme due to inclement weather conditions, the DIPR stated. Ramdas Athavale addressed the gathering through the phone during the occasion, it stated.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s speech was read out by the OSD to CM, Mankhao. He said Mon was one of the most strategically located districts of Nagaland. It has boundaries with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar.
“Mon also happens to be one of the most backward districts of Nagaland and it’s indeed benefitting that the social empowerment camp with an objective to provide physical aids and assisted living devices to senior citizens and differently-able people is being organized in Mon,” according to the DIPR’s report on the speech.
Rio congratulated Mon for being the first district in the state to complete assessment and distribution.
Further, he mentioned that the state’s government had notified the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 during the previous year.
The departments have been directed to ensure implementation of the Act in letter and spirit, the updates added.
