DIMAPUR — Citing customary laws and past resolutions, the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has ordered the banishment of three Maova village functionaries over an unresolved assault case.
In an ‘order’ issued on Thursday, the organisation stated that the action was taken in connection with the February 13 incident at Maova village, where members of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), including its president, were allegedly physically assaulted and its volunteers grievously injured.
Despite multiple rounds of engagement, the CYO stated that efforts to resolve the issue amicably failed, even after the CPO provided several opportunities to Maova village leaders to arrive at a settlement.
“However, till date, Maova village leaders had failed to come to terms with CPO for a peaceful solution,” it stated.

Invoking Angami customary law and longstanding Chakhroma resolutions—including a 1945 resolution adopted at Tsiepama and a 1995 declaration signed at Medziphema—the organisation maintained that individuals responsible for such acts cannot be allowed to remain within Chakhroma jurisdiction.
The order named Sutminal Vaiphei, Chairman of Maova Village Council; Seiboi Changsan, Head GB; and Paoboi Changsang, Chairman, as being responsible for allegedly instigating youths to carry out the premeditated attack and subsequently failing to pursue reconciliation.
Accordingly, the three have been banished from Maova village and the wider Chakhroma area with immediate effect, and directed to leave the jurisdiction within 30 days.
The organisation further warned that failure to comply would leave them solely responsible for their safety and welfare in the event of any untoward incidents.
