Assam Statehood Day celebrated at Raj Bhavan Kohima

DIMAPUR — The Assam Statehood Day was celebrated at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on Tuesday, with the Governor of Nagaland, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, attending the occasion.


According to an update, the programme was organised under the spirit of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative.


Addressing the gathering, the governor highlighted Assam’s heritage, cultural harmony, and its contribution to the nation’s growth. He described Assam as a land symbolised by the Brahmaputra and praised its ancient civilisations, traditions, and people as embodiments of India’s unity in diversity.


The governor acknowledged Assam’s role in tea, oil, agriculture, and biodiversity conservation, along with its contributions to art, music, literature, and theatre. He also noted how festivals like Bihu and the Sattriya heritage of Majuli reflect the state’s cultural vibrancy.

Appreciating the Assamese community living across India, the governor commended their efforts in preserving their cultural identity while contributing to their adopted states.


The cultural segment of the programme showcased a display of Assam’s traditions. An Assamese Bihu dance was performed by Astha Gogoi, while an Assam Divas modern creative dance was presented by Sanjana Bordoloi. An Assam song was rendered by Aradhya Bora. The Srishti Shil Nritya was performed by Shruti Sonowal Mech and Lovely Sonowal Mech, while the Bodo dance was presented by Anjali Boro and friends.
