Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): Assam Rifles, in continuation of its commitment at reaching out to people in remote areas to provide basic amenities to locals, undertook various civic action programmes.
44 Assam Rifles constructed the roof of village community assembly hall in Chuchuyimlang village in Mokokchung district.
It was reported that people of the village were facing acute problems in organising meetings and local functions in the assembly hall during rainy seasons.

The community hall was inaugurated by Colonel KS Kataria, Commandant 44 Assam Rifles, in the presence of the chairman and other council members of Chuchuyimlang on February 25. Meanwhile, villagers have expressed gratitude to the Security forces for undertaking the needs of village.
36 Assam Rifles under aegis of Headquarters IGAR (N) constructed a water storage tank at Khelma village, Peren district. The water tank was inaugurated on February 28, by Commandant, 36 Assam Rifles in presence of villagers. The aim of project was to resolve prolonged water storage problem in this remote village. The storage tank will be benefit a large sector of the community and will contribute towards improving hygiene and sanitation in the village.
The civil administration and locals appreciated and expressed their gratitude to Assam Rifles for providing the facility and keeping up with the ethos of ‘Friends of the Hill People’

Also the troops conducted trekking expedition to Mt. Paona from February 26 to 28. The aim of the expedition was to spread awareness about natural beauty of Nagaland and to foster a spirit of adventure amongst the students.
A total of 40 students and two teachers from Government Higher Secondary School, Jalukie took part in the expedition. During the expedition the team established a base camp at Benreu village and trekked Mt. Paona, which stands 2486 meters above sea level.
The civil administration, school authorities and parents of students appreciated and expressed their gratitude to Assam Riifles for conduct of the event in keeping up with the sobriquet ‘Friends of the Hill People’.

To promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and impress upon the importance of cleanliness for a healthy, disease free life, 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a lecture on hygiene and sanitization at Chukitong, Wokha on March 2. The lecture was organized for students of Government Higher Secondary School, and civil society of Chukitong which was attended by 240 students, 12 teachers and 20 civil dignitaries.
9 Assam Rifles organised a friendly volleyball match with the youths of Chiephobozou town on March 1, with an aim to encourage the village youths to participate in sports and also to provide insight to local youth in the life of friends of the hill people – the Assam Rifles.
The match was followed by an interaction wherein youths were motivated to join the Armed Forces.
36 Assam Rifles conducted a medical camp at Razephema village, Peren District on February 27. During the medical camp, a team of Assam Rifles medical team treatment a total of 268 locals.
On the occasion of Wildlife Day, a lecture was conducted by 9 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North), on protection of wildlife at Government Middle School, Chizami on March 3. Importance of wildlife in maintaining the ecological nature, stabilising natural process in the environment and various measures for protection of wildlife, were taught to the students.
The lecture was attended by 160 students and 12 teachers who pledged to work together for protection of wildlife in the Chizami region.
9 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) organised a free medical check-up and treatment camp onMarch 5, to provide healthcare support to residents of Khezakheno under Pfutsero sub- division. Dr. Satyaranjan Changthong, Chief Medical Officer, 9 Assam Rifles highlighted the emergence of non communicable diseases and importance of lifestyle modifications particularly diet and physical activity. A total of 250 patients were examined during the camp. A special screening for diabetes was done for 80 patients. In addition, HIV/AIDS awareness program was also organized along with free counseling and testing.
Pamphlets of signs & symptoms of hypertension, risk factors associated with Non Communicable diseases, diet during diabetes etc were distributed to educate the public and generate further awareness. People from Khezakheno village and adjacent remote areas conveyed their gratitude.
44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a meeting with Chairman, Gaon Budhas and Council members of Ungma Village on 04 Mar 2017. The village representatives of Ungma discussed issues pertaining to health, education, development and local problems. They also applauded the efforts of Assam Rifles in true spirit of friends of the hill people. During the interaction, Commandant of 44 Assam Rifles highlighted upon the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment by increased bonhomie. The meeting concluded with exchange of greetings for the upcoming festive season.
