Dimapur, Jan. 14: A 14-day National Integration Tour (NIT) comprising 18 students from remote areas of Lunglei district to Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai was flagged off by Lalzarmawii, deputy commissioner and Zosang Liana, SP of Lunglei in the presence of Colonel Bal Bahadur Pun, SM, Commandant of 1 Assam Rifles on January 10 last.
The tour, according to a press release received here, has been planned keeping in mind the goal of national integration which would help the students from the far-flung corners of Mizoram in comprehending the vast assortment, customs and vibrant traditions of our country.
“The tour would also cover historical and cultural places to broaden the horizon of these students. The main motive of the tour is to inculcate a sense of togetherness between people of Mizoram and Assam Rifles and to motivate the youth to join para military forces and defence services.
“Visits to places like National Defence Academy in Pune and Naval Dockyard in Mumbai and interactions planned with the distinguished personalities would not only motivate the young minds but also help the students to draw inspiration from these distinguished personalities. It will provide these students to see the developmental strides India has taken and the opportunities the nation has to offer,” it stated.
The students aged between 14-19 years will visit historical places like Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge and Eden Gardens Cricket stadium in Kolkata, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla Lake, Singhgarh Fort in Pune, Lonavala, Adlab Imagica in Lonalvala and Gateway of India, Hotel Taj, Naval Shipyard, Juhu Beach in Mumbai.
“Such program has a direct impact on the heart and mind of people and will go a long way in bringing the hill people and “Friends of Hill People” closer for everlasting peace, prosperity and insurgency/drug free region,” the press release stated.
