DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles has rejected the ‘malicious narrative initiated by NSCN (IM) to tarnish the image of the force,’ which has been ‘the security provider in the northeastern region for years,’ referring to a recently published news item in various local dailies.
In a press release, the Assam Rifles alleged that a news item published on September 2 in different newspapers seemed to be a part of a malign propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting and discouraging the elite security forces from their bona fide duties.
It clarified that on August 29, an input was received regarding the movement of armed cadres in the general area of Doyapur village, Dimapur district; hence, a motor vehicle check post (MVCP) was established at 4 pm.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It revealed that during the course of action, a suspected white Mahindra Bolero car bearing registration number MN08 A 0772 approached the check post. During the search of the vehicle, two suspected individuals, later revealed as NSCN (IM) cadres, were found in possession of, unaccounted for, INR 10,61,000.
“The cadres revealed that they were going to GHQ, Hebron, for submission of the money illegally extorted from Senapati district of Manipur. Such a belligerent act of possession of a huge amount of extorted money by cadres is a blatant violation of the Cease Fire Ground Rules,” the release read.
The AR claimed that the news published on September 2 is an attempt to malign its image, which has always been at the forefront of enforcing the ground rules and stopping the nefarious activities of armed groups.
“It is a clear manifestation of frustration by the faction as they were caught red-handed,” it said, adding that the Assam Rifles remains committed to being the sentinels of peace and will not let any faction vitiate the security milieu and ensure people-friendly operations to remain committed to the motto of ‘Friends of the North East People’ and to the peace process initiated by the government of India.
