Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles organised fitness activities for the children of orphanage home at Peren town on December 23 on the theme 'Fit India Movement.'
According to a defence release, the event was aimed at promoting and spreading awareness to adopt a healthy life style. The event started with a 1.5 km run followed by yoga and a friendly football match. Besides, a lecture on importance of physical and medical health and ways to remain healthy during the pandemic was also conducted.
It stated that a total of 29 children participated in the event.
In a similar programme, the same battalion conducted ‘Yoga for Fit India’ drive at Heningkunglwa and Tening villages in Peren district.
The aim of the event, according to a defence release, was to foster a spirit of fitness among the locals. A lecture was also conducted to encourage them to live a healthy, fit lifestyle and also follow the coronavirus guidelines with full dedication. The event was organised to convey the message that inactivity breeds diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardio-vascular complications, obesity etc.
It stated that a total of 25 civilians at Heningkunglwa and 13 civilians at Tening village took part in the yoga with zeal and enthusiasm.
The same battalion also donated an inverter set to the local populace at Tening town on December 24.
The inverter set was donated following an appeal for help from the Tening town council members to be placed at the council hall. The council members highlighted their grievances on the difficulty to function smoothly due to the frequent light cuts.
It added that the town council and the public have acknowledged the efforts of the security forces.
In yet another programme, the same battalion conducted a medical camp and distributed solar light at Njauna village in Peren district on December 22.
Besides conducting free medical check-up and providing necessary medicines to the residents of Njauna village, the Assam Rifles personnel have briefed about the various health and hygiene treatment.
It stated that a total of 132 persons including 40 male, 55 female and 37 children have benefited from the medical camp.
In addition, solar light system including a solar panel, rechargeable light, three bulbs and charging cables were also provided to the village council.
