Lt Col L Vincent Patton informed through a press release made available to the media on Saturday about various activities undertaken by the paramilitary force under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) over the last few days. Odimongba will be competing in 45 kg category and Piulin in 55 kg category at the 8th National Blind Judo Championship in Hyderabad, Telangana scheduled to be held from November 1 to the 4th. Women empowerment Mokokchung battalion of AR organised a lecture to create awareness on women’s rights as well as promote women empowerment, with the theme “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” at Town Hall, Mokokchung on October 26. The update stated that various events were held during the programme to make the participants aware of conservative thoughts against women that are still prevailing in the society. Pallavi Thakur motivated the girls to step out, obtain higher education and take on a profession they like. Awareness about the initiative being undertaken by the AR to empower women by providing a career option was also highlighted at the programme. Interactive session with citizens Phek battalion of AR conducted an interactive session with village functionaries and nearby areas at Customary Court at Kiphire town on October 25. The interaction was focused on liaison between the locals and security forces about the issues concerning the local populace like health, education, employment, sports and illegal extortion, informed the update from AR. It was an initiative to give confidence to the local population to engage more closely with the paramilitary force to maintain peace in the region. About 30 GBs attended the meeting. Weapon display and football match Mon battalion of AR conducted a weapon display programme at Government Middle School, Lungwa on October 25. Various weapons used by the AR and Infantry Battalions were displayed at the event. The update informed that students were also made aware of various types of ways to join the Indian Armed Forces. Queries raised by the students were entertained and clarified. About 55 students and four school teachers attended the event. In another event, Mon battalion organised a ‘Friendly Football Match’ at Naginimora on October 24 with an aim to motivate local youths to engage in physical activities to stay fit. In an informal interaction that followed, update on various upcoming recruitment rallies was provided and encouraged interested individuals to prepare in order to take the recruitment test confidently. Organic Farmic Tour The AR HQ IGAR (N) facilitated nine farmers (six male and three female) from Nagaland who were part of the 50 farmers from North East that undertook ‘Organic Farmic Tour’ to Sikkim. The tour that was held from September 24 to October 13 aimed at generating economically viable self-sustenance enterprises at local level. The farmers got the chance to gain practical knowledge on organic ways of soil testing, controlling pests, and various harvesting technologies besides exposure to the emerging markets.
