Imphal, July 1 (EMN): The Assam Rifles and state authority on Saturday paid homage to Assam Rifles jawan who, who died during a bomb explosion in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Friday.
In memory of Rifleman/GD Biju Sorupuwar who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 30 June 2017, a Wreath Laying Ceremony with full military honours and decorum was conducted at Tulihal International Aiport by 5 JAK RIF under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South).
State Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary(Home) , Additional DGP(L& O) Anand Prakash, DIG CRPF Brig S K Sharma, officiating IG Assam Rifles(S) Brig R K Singh, Deputy GOC 57 Div Brig S K S Chauhan & Commander 9 Sector Brig J S Bainsla paid floral tribute to the departed soul by laying wreath.
Condemning the incident, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu said that Biju left his home to serve Manipur and is a true martyr. He added that public and government should cooperate with each other to strive for furtherance of peace in the region.
“Rifleman Biju Sorupuwar of 27 Assam Rifles made the supreme sacrifice in a dastardly act by insurgents at Lambui in Ukhrul District Manipur,” says PRO Assam Rifles (South) in a statement. “Biju is a resident of Lakhimpur District, Assam and is survived by his wife and two children. He was a dedicated, brave and sincere soldier and the nation will remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice.”
