Assam Rifles organises wreath-laying, nutrition drive

DIMAPUR — In a series of activities on Monday, the Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony at Kohima War Cemetery, a nutrition drive for children at Bumei village, and the distribution of sports items to the Youth Club of Chizami village, Phek district.


According to an update, the wreath-laying ceremony was held to honour the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Battle of Kohima in World War II, often referred to as the "Stalingrad of the East".


Governor of Nagaland Ajay Kumar Bhalla paid his homage at the cemetery soon after his swearing-in at Raj Bhawan. Accompanied by senior officials of the state and Assam Rifles, he laid a wreath at the memorial, paying tribute to the soldiers whose valour and sacrifice defended Kohima and altered the course of the war.


It said that the cemetery continues to stand as a symbol of unity and shared history, drawing visitors from across the world.

In Bumei village, the Assam Rifles conducted a nutrition drive at Holy Vineyard School for kindergarten and first standard students.


A total of 214 students were served a nutritious meal comprising chocolate milk, eggs, and pearl millet porridge. The children were also educated on the health benefits of millet-based food and encouraged to adopt healthy dietary habits.


On the same day, sports items were distributed to the Youth Club of Chizami Village Council at the Community Hall, Chizami village.


The items included table tennis sets, badminton kits, skipping ropes, football kits, volleyball kits, and carrom boards. The event was attended by 132 participants.
