
Dimapur, Aug. 22 (EMN): Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the Unit War Memorial in Jalukie town on August 17.
The event was organised to remember and honour its fallen brave heart, Naik/ General Duty Dhan Bahadur Sunar, Shaurya Chakra, who in the richest tradition of the force made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in line of duty on August 17, 1991, near Along village in Ukhrul district of Manipur while fighting insurgents and saving lives of his fellow troops under Operation Hifazat.
A defence release stated that the Event was attended by all ranks of the battalion, wherein the attendees were briefed on how the fallen hero Naik/ General Duty Dhan Bahadur Sunar, displayed conspicuous gallantry.
In another programme, Tuensang battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a book donation ceremony in Yakshu village under Mon district on August 17.
The books were donated to the students union in the presence of school teachers and student union secretary and other members. It stated that the students have appreciated the efforts made by the battalion.
On the occasion, 15 notebooks and other writing materials were also donated to the needy students. The student members were also briefed about various upcoming opportunities in the armed forces.
In another programme, Kiphire battalion of the Assam Rifles assisted the villagers in clearing a major road blockade which occurred due to landslide between Lopfukong and Khongjiri villages on August 17.
It stated that the road from Mimi to Khongjiri Junction and further to Pungro and Kiphire was blocked due to incessant rains in the past few days. It stated that 25 personnel of the battalion reached the spot and assisted the villagers in clearing the road blockade.
