Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): As part of commemorating the ‘Swatchata Pakhwada,’ the Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted poster making and painting competitions at the government high school of Peren town, government middle school at Heningkunglwa, and the ARPS at Jalukie town on December 14.
An update from a defence release stated that a total of 247 children from the schools took part with zeal and enthusiasm.
It also stated that children used vibrant colours and imagination in their paintings to spread the awareness about the importance of cleanliness in day-to-day life and the ill effects of the unhygienic conditions on health and the diseases related to it.
The students were made aware of the Swatch Bharat initiated by the government of India. It further added that teachers and students have appreciated the efforts of security forces for conducting the event and urged for more such events in future.
Meanwhile, as part of government’s initiative on ‘Fit India Movement’ and with an aim to foster the spirit of fitness and adopt a healthy lifestyle among the troops, Assam Rifles conducted a five km run at Company Operating Base (COB) at Peren.
A defence release stated that a total of 42 soldiers took part in the run with great zeal and enthusiasm. Besides the run, a lecture on lifestyle diseases with emphasis on obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular complications and methods to prevent them was also conducted for the troops to encourage them to live a healthy and fit lifestyle.
In a similar programme, Kiphire battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a lecture on the theme “Stay fit, Stay Healthy” at Marketing shed in Longmatre town on December 14.
Youth from the town and villages participated in the lecture programme with enthusiasm. The village administration has lauded the efforts of Assam Rifles.
