MOKOKCHUNG/DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles organised free medical camps in Mokokchung and Shamator on Wednesday.
The 12 Assam Rifles, under the aegis of 7 Sector Assam Rifles and the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), organised a free multispecialty medical camp in Mokokchung.
The initiative provided essential healthcare services to 386 patients from the local community, including ex-servicemen and Veer Naris (war widows).
A team of specialists delivered consultations in key areas such as general medicine, gynaecology, ENT (ear, nose and throat), dental care, and general practice. The camp also featured visiting experts from Nashik, Maharashtra, who brought additional medical expertise to the remote region.

Beyond consultations, the camp offered a range of free diagnostic and treatment facilities, including blood tests (with blood grouping and HIV screening accompanied by counselling), audiometry tests, ECG examinations, and dental procedures such as tooth extractions. All patients received appropriate medicines based on their diagnosed needs.
Also, the 32 Assam Rifles Shamator Battalion organised a free medical camp at Shamator under the aegis of Headquarters 7 Sector IGAR (North) on the same day.
According to an update, a host of doctors led by GP Singh VSM, Commandant, took an active role in treating around 500 patients by providing free first aid and other medical facilities. The Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) team also assisted during the medical camp.
The medical camp covered free medical checkups across departments such as dentistry, paediatrics, orthopaedics, gynaecology, general medicine, and dermatology.
Kiumehan Yimkhiung, President of STPF, thanked GP Singh VSM, all the doctors and the medical team for their extraordinary humanitarian services with deep gratitude toward the 32 Assam Rifles for rendering their service for the cause of the Shamator people.
The president also requested Minister of Health and Family Welfare Paiwang Konyak and Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, to urgently deploy adequate numbers of doctors, nurses, and medical staff, stating that the District Hospital Shamator is running only with one MBBS doctor and a dental doctor with few nurses, facing untold hardship in availing even basic medical treatment.
