Dimapur, March 29 (EMN): Basing on specific intelligent inputs, Tizit battalion of the Assam Rifles has arrested four suspected NSCN (K) cadres in Aboi on March 28.
The four accused were arrested during a mobile check at road Aboi-Chenmoho junction while travelling in a Maruti Omni van bearing registered No AS-223847.
They were identified as ‘SS’ Sgt Wangnao Takhe @ Wangyah (37) and resident of Chenwentnyu in Mon district, ‘SS’ Corporal Khaopa Konyak (30) and resident of Longching in Mon district, Hongshai Konyak (43) and resident of Chinglong in Mon district, and Achae Konyak (30) and resident of Chinglong in Mon district.
The troops recovered one 7.65 mm pistol (made in Italy), one .22 pistol, seven live rounds of 7.65mm, five live rounds of .22, cash amounting INR 4,52,940, mobile phones, four bottles MC Dowell rum, three kani strips (opium), from their possession.
A Assam Rifles press release stated that the arrested persons along with the recovered items were handed over to Aboi police station for further investigation.
In a related incident, the Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles has arrested one person suspected to a member of NSCN (KN) in Athibung on March 29.
The accused has been identified as ‘SS’ Pvt Mosia, son of Tabui and resident of Tening village in Peren district.
The troops recovered cash amounting INR 2000 from his possession. It stated that the accused along with the recovered items were handed over to Athibung police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Jalukie battalion of Assam Rifles conducted an operation in general area of Itangki in Athibung on March 26.
A press release from the Assam Rifles establishment in Jalukie stated that during the operation, the Assam Rifles personnel apprehended five suspected armed NSCN (IM) cadres with illegal possession of weapons. The apprehended individuals were identified as Maj Hanger Walling, Nito Chishi, Isak Sumi, Wishing Awoishinh, and Kheka Sumi.
The recoveries included two 12 Bore Rifles, 1.22 mm Rifle, 16 live rounds of 12 Bore Rifle, 37 live rounds of .22 mm Rifle and six detonators.
The apprehended individuals along with the recovered items were handed over to Athibung police station for further investigation.
In yet another incident, the Tuensang battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (K) cadre in Tuensang on March 26.
A press release from the Assam Rifles media cell stated that the battalion carried out a mobile vehicle check post based on specific inputs about the movement of NSCN (K) cadre on March 26 in Tuensang- Kuthur road.
The Assam Rifles statement reported that during one vehicle check, an individual identified as Kiu Khum (30) was apprehended. Khum was reported to have been a resident of Tuensang Sadar in Tuensang.
The apprehended cadre was in possession of 1.22 pistol with magazine, 14 live rounds, and 31 SP capsules, the statement reported. The apprehended individual along with the recovered items was handed over to Police Station, Tuensang for further investigation, it added.
