Assam Rifles helped douse a fire in Longleng and celebrated Christmas with students and locals in Wakching village, Mon district.

DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles assisted local volunteers and fire personnel in dousing a fire in Longleng on December 22 and also organised an event in Mon titled ‘A day with the company commander’.
A fire broke out at a residence in Leinak Ward, Longleng, at around 12:45 pm. According to an update, the blaze engulfed parts of the house belonging to one John P Bukung Keikung, posing a threat to nearby homes.
An officer of the Assam Rifles spotted the fire from the Company Operating Base (COB) and alerted troops. The personnel cordoned off the area, evacuated people, and deployed firefighting equipment.

Fire personnel from the Longleng fire station, local volunteers, and Assam Rifles troops collaborated to douse the blaze. The fire was brought under control within about two hours, with no casualties reported.
The affected family was provided relief by the Assam Rifles personnel and the local community.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles organised an event titled ‘A day with the company commander’ at Wakching in Mon district under the theme “Christmas celebrations”.

The event was attended by teachers, staff members, local representatives, students from Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India – Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (PM SHRI JNV), Mon, and local youth from Wakching village.
The programme commenced with a Christmas cake cutting ceremony. The company commander interacted with the students and local youth and extended wishes for Christmas and the upcoming New Year.
Students and youth presented cultural performances, including traditional Konyak tribal dances and carol singing.
A tour of the COB was conducted, during which students were exposed to the operational environment. A lecture on career opportunities in the Armed Forces, covering entry schemes such as Agniveer and Short Service Commission, was also held.
Other activities included the screening of a motivational movie, a dog show, and games. The event concluded with a volleyball match between the local youth team and the Assam Rifles team.
