
Dimapur, Aug. 1 (EMN): Phek battalion of the Assam Rifles evacuated four civilians, who were critically injured in an accident near Thewati village in Phek district on July 31.
A defence release stated that four civilians were critically injured when the truck in which they were travelling toppled near Thewati village. It stated that the medical team of Phek battalion rushed to the accident site and provided first aid and basic life support to the injured persons.
As the conditions of three persons were critical, they were evacuated to CHC Meluri defying inclement weather conditions. It added that the Assam Rifles personnel cleared all the roadblocks enroute caused due to landslides.
The prompt action by the battalion was appreciated by the family members and the villagers.
The same battalion has cleared road blocks caused due to landslides at Lephori, Ziphu and Phek town on July 31 and August 1.
It stated that bad weather and continuous rains triggered various landslides in Lephori, Ziphu and Phek town blocking the road connecting Jessami - Akhen, Akhegwo - Avanghku and the main road connecting district headquarters with NH-29.
It mentioned that Jessami - Akhen and Akhegwo - Avanghku act as lifeline for all the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) villages. Phek battalion has cleared both the roads by employing its JCB and mostly by manual efforts. It added that the road connecting the district headquarters with NH-29 was also cleared by employing the battalion's JCB.
Villagers and the district administration have thanked the Assam Rifles for clearing the roads.
