DIMAPUR — As part of a pilot media internship programme initiated by the Indian Army, selected students visited the Headquarters of Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) during their 10-day course at the Rangapahar Military Station.
According to an update, the internship is designed to provide young students with first-hand exposure to the Army’s multifaceted role in national security, nation-building, and fostering peace and development in the Northeast region.
During the programme, interns gained insights into various operational and administrative aspects of the Indian Army while developing content such as articles, posters, videos, and short films, contributing to the Army’s information warfare and narrative-building efforts.

At the headquarters, the students initially interacted with the Public Relations Officer for Defence in Kohima, who briefed them on the nuances of media management. This was followed by an interaction with the Inspector General of the Assam Rifles (North).
The interns also gained first-hand experience by visiting a local unit, where they learned about the routine functioning of an Assam Rifles battalion. Additionally, they visited historic landmarks in Kohima, including the Kohima War Cemetery and Eco Park.
Speaking on the occasion, the Inspector General highlighted the importance of constructive youth engagement and encouraged the interns to share their experiences widely to promote authentic and balanced narratives about the region and the Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles organised a community lunch in Tuensang and provided a computer to a children’s home in the Meluri district.
In Tuensang, the Assam Rifles High School organised a community lunch on April 25 to celebrate the harvest festivals observed during the month of April.
They brought a variety of traditional dishes from different regions, showcasing the unique culinary heritage of states across the country.
In a separate initiative, the Assam Rifles provided a computer to the Hope Children Home in the Meluri district as part of its continued efforts to support education and improve digital access for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
The initiative was undertaken to strengthen learning resources and promote basic computer literacy among children residing in the institution. The computer was formally handed over to the management of the children’s home for use in academic activities and skill development programmes.
During the interaction, Assam Rifles personnel engaged with the children and staff, highlighting the importance of education, digital awareness, and consistent effort in achieving long-term goals.
