
Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles recently donated a computer set and printer-cum scanner to the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), an apex women organisation of the Konyak community, in Mon town.
A defence release expressed hope that the noble gesture would facilitate the women civil society organisation to make a positive contribution towards the society. The initiative was undertaken keeping in mind the need to upgrade and facilitate the current working system of KNSK so that Konyak society could be benefitted.
It stated that Assam Rifles has been committed to work for the development of Konyak and society and living upto its motto ‘Friends of the hill people.’
All the office bearers of KNSK along with its senior advisors were present during the event. It stated that KNSK president, Pongjem Konyak, and vice president, Bejem Konyak, have applauded the contribution of Assam Rifles towards bright future of women and Konyak society as a whole.
While lauding the efforts of the KNSK for their initiative and active participation in reaching out to the woman and imparting bead training and keeping strict check on liquor and drugs, representative of Assam Rifles assured the KNSK officials of its continued support towards the welfare and development of the Konyak people.
An interactive session was also conducted wherein it KSNK office bearers were encouraged to send maximum girls for pre-recruitment training being conducted by the Assam Rifles at its Mon post.
KNSK president as well as the office bearers has lauded the efforts undertaken by the Assam Rifles.
In a separate programme, the same battalion conducted a drawing competition in Longwa village, located along the Indo-Myanmar border, on the theme ‘Your favorite freedom fighter.’
The aim of the competition was to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian national flag. It stated that 30 students in the age group between 6 and 12 years from Government Primary School, GMS and Shalom School in Longwa village participated in the event.
It added that parents, chief Angh, pastor, teachers and village authorities were also present to encourage their children.
