DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles conducted various activities across Nagaland on December 31, 2025, and January 1.
Assam Rifles celebrated Christmas and New Year with the children of Bethel Children Home, Tuensang, reflecting the force’s commitment towards community outreach and social harmony, a defence release stated.
The special programme was organised where children along with the staff members of orphanage were present. The event featured cake cutting, children organised various cultural activities including singing and dance expressing their happiness and enthusiasm through vibrant performances.
“As part of the celebrations and as a gesture of care and compassion, Assam Rifles gifted study materials, solar lamps and snacks bringing smiles to the faces of the children and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness associated with the Christmas festival,” it stated.

The orphanage staff appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the efforts of Assam Rifles in reaching out to the children. They stated that such events highlighted the enduring bond between Assam Rifles and the people of the region and reaffirmed the forces' dedication towards fostering peace, harmony, and mutual trust.
Assam Rifles also conducted a sports item distribution ceremony at Pokhungri village, Meluri district, a part of their ongoing efforts to promote sports and physical fitness in the region. The Assam Rifles handed over a total of five footballs, five volleyballs and one volleyball net to the Pokhungri Area Sports Organisation.
“This distribution is aimed at encouraging the youth to engage in sports promoting a healthy lifestyle in the region. The initiative is part of Assam Rifles' community outreach program which focuses on promoting sports, education and health in the areas where they operate,” it stated.
“The event was marked by a sense of enthusiasm excitement with the local representatives looking forward to making the most of the sports equipment provided,” it added.
On December 31, 2025, a ‘Day with Coy Cdr.’ event was conducted by Assam Rifles of Phek Battalion at Meluri and Avangkhu, bringing together 25 village council chairmen (VCCs) and gaon buras (GBs) in Meluri and 18 in Avangkhu to foster dialogue and address local needs.
The event provided a platform for the local leaders to discuss various issues and opportunities for development in their respective villages, a separate press release stated.

During the event, VCCs and GBs shared their insights and concerns, highlighting the importance of community development and infrastructure growth.
The Assam Rifles took note of the discussions and is committed to working with the local administration to support community development initiatives. The event also provided an opportunity for the Assam Rifles to understand the needs and aspirations of the local community, enabling them to tailor their support and initiatives accordingly.
“The event demonstrated the Assam Rifles' commitment to building strong relationships with local communities and addressing their needs, promoting peace and development in the region.
“The Assam Rifles has been working tirelessly to support the development of the region and this event is a testament to their continued efforts. The local leaders appreciated the efforts of the Assam Rifles in promoting peace and development in the region and expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the Coy Cdr.,” the release added.
