
Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles along with PHC Chenmoho conducted an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS in Chenmoho village under Mon district on December 11.
A defence release stated that the programme was organised due to increase in HIV cases in the region and to reach out to communities located in remote areas. The awareness lecture focused on preventive measures, testing facilities and treatment.
It stated that the efforts of Assam Rifles to achieve zero new HIV case in the area was appreciated by the village. Altogether, 140 villagers including women and children attended the programme.
The same battalion also organised a Pre-Christmas musical night at Mon helipad on December 10, which was attended by men, women and children of Mon town. It stated that the effort of Assam Rifles to connect with the local people during festive season was appreciated by the crowd.
In another programme, Zunheboto battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a weapon display and motivational lecture for the cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Zunheboto town on December 10.
It stated that information about various entries in the army to become an officer and guidance for the preparation of the same was disseminated. It stated that queries from the cadets on the procedure of service selection board interview and CDS examination were explained. Besides, small arms firing exposure was also organised for the cadets.
The same battalion also organised a ‘Ujjwala campaign’ at Silam, Kangnyu and Bongzyu Basti of Chenloisho Wangto village under Mon district on December 11.
The campaign was organised with an aim to eradicate the electricity shortage and promote sustainable solar energy.
Under the campaign, the battalion distributed solar lights to Silam, Kangnyu and Bongzyu Basti of Wangto village. The campaign was conducted in presence of civil society organisations of the respective colonies in Wangto village.
