Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): Continuing with its civic action programmes, Assam Rifles have organised various activities in different parts of the state including awareness lecture for students and undertaking plantation drive.
Wokha battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted an awareness lecture cum interaction programme for students for admission to Sainik School at DC Ground, Wokha, on August 21. The aim of the programme was to spread awareness and motivate students seeking admission to Sainik School Punglwa.
Eligible candidates desirous of joining Sainik School for academic session 2020-21 would be facilitated with academic training and organised tuitions at its battalion headquarters, Wokha, to assist them in clearing the all India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE).
A total of 40 students, three teachers and six parents from Wokha town participated in the lecture.
Headquarter 5 Sector of the Assam Rifles also organised a motivational lecture-cum-career counselling for students of UGC Girls and Goodwill Boys Hostel at UGC Girls Hostel, Kohima, on August 26.
The lecture covered information about various opportunities in the armed forces and the various entry schemes and eligibility criteria. The participants were also provided with necessary guidance in preparing for competitive exams related to army and CAPF.
The lecture was followed with an interactive session wherein various queries raised by students were entertained and clarified. The lecture was warmly welcomed by 68 students comprising 50 girls, 18 boys and hostel staff.
Meanwhile, Dimapur battalion of the Assam Rifles distributed stationeries and food items to students of Government Primary School, Shikuto village, Dimapur, on August 26.
In another programme, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised an environmental campaign against global warming by conducting tree plantation drive at Assam Rifles Public School, Kohima, and Jotsoma on August 26.
A total of six officers, five teachers and 52 students planted 11 saplings at Kohima Garrison while at Jotsoma 550 saplings were planted by 23 youth along with one officer, one JCO and 10 other ranks in landslide prone waste land near Model Village.
Major General PC Nair, IGAR(N), apart from participating in planting of saplings, motivated students to be environment conscious to contain global warming.
