Dimapur, April 8 (EMN): As a run up to ULFA(I) Raising Day on April 7, Assam Rifles conducted a major operation near Blijan village at Lekhapani on April 6 resulting in destruction of a NSCN(K) hideout, this was reported through a press release from PRO (Defence) appended by Col C Konwer.
It further stated that based on specific intelligence about presence of NSCN (K) cadres trying to terrorize and attempting extortion in Paharpur and Balijan villages, the Assam Riffles of Changlang and Jairampur battalions swiftly launched an operation, surrounding the hideout in the early hours on April 6. However using cover of darkness and foliage the underground were able to escape, in subsequent search during the day the forces found the hideout consisting of temporary hutments. The under grounds had been using this hideout as adhoc base for operations for terrorizing and carrying out extortion in the neighbouring villages.
The Security Forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area. The operation has tightened the noose around the group and has brought relief to the local population, the report added.
