In a public notice issued on Monday, the commissioner of police, Dimapur, stated that the “silent period” under the Model Code of Conduct will be in force in Assam from 5 pm on April 7 to 5 pm on April 9, during which all forms of election campaigning are strictly prohibited.
The notice stated that public meetings, rallies, speeches, processions, and dissemination of election-related content through television, radio, cable networks, and social media will not be permitted during this period.
Consequently, the inter-state border with Assam will be sealed from 5 pm on April 7 until 5 pm on April 9, it informed, adding that security forces will be deployed at all entry and exit points to ensure strict compliance.

Movement in border areas will also be heavily restricted: all inter-state crossings, except those along the National Highway, will remain closed. Entry and movement of individuals who are not registered voters of the constituency concerned will not be allowed in border areas.
The notice further stated that outsiders will not be permitted to enter or move within other constituencies or administrative jurisdictions during the period. However, travellers on the National Highway will be allowed to pass strictly for bona fide transit purposes.
Residents, traders and commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and avoid unnecessary movement in border areas to prevent inconvenience.
